Sunday was the last day of water for the Summit system. Costly but not to efficient when trying to grow a crop of hay. We had a wet cold spring, no complaints except that the hay won’t grow under those conditions. Even with that said the coop still decided on an early end of the irragation water.
There is always something to do, no matter what anyone might think. You can not live on a farm/ranch and ever get it all done no matter how hard you worked or how old you got.
The dogs and the sheep are all wandering around together. Freckles thinks she is a dog and wants the same attention. Emma is still the alfa dog, as far as dad and I see it, and she gets to prove it to the pups quit often. It must be hard on her not being able to see and have to train two pups. Of course Mack is small and bold, and is more a farm dog than the lap dog he was intended for. He follows dad everywhere, especially to do the water. He comes back like a mud ball most of the time. Cruz, the golden lab, our sons gave their dad for father’s day grows more each day. You can almost see him get larger. He is all play and mischief. Can’t keep him out of the ditch, but now the water is gone, he will probably spend his time in the pond with the ducks and horses.
The chickens are less in number, as eight or more flew over the top of the pen and the young dogs chased and killed three of them, it was quit a feat to get the other five back into the cage. Started out with twenty-six and I am down to 20.
We are planning a trip to the rez this Friday to sell hay. Dad has a bad back and he thought he might have kidney stones, but he says it won’t be hard to lift all those bales of hay because you only lift one bale at a time.
Dad has the water line extended to the southern part of the south field. It should add another three acres to the hay crop. Besides it gets rid of that much sagebrush which I don’t care for. I was always amazed that Grandmother Hattaway planted sagebrush in her yard. It has always been a trash plant to me.
With the water off for the season, I’m in hopes of getting something done on the upstairs of the barn.
